Appellate Law
Anderson+Jones handles appeals and defense-of-appeals in employment and labor cases, complex commercial litigation, landlord-tenant cases, consumer disputes, and personal injury lawsuits. Attorneys in the firm are admitted to all appellate courts in Texas (Houston, Waco, Eastland, El Paso, Texarkana, Dallas, Austin, Amarillo, Beaumont, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi), as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in the federal system, and the U.S. and the Texas Supreme Courts.
The firm is staffed and trained in effective appellate advocacy, at all levels of the appeals chain. This includes appellant’s and appellee’s briefs, oral argument, points of error, writ of certiorari, petitions for review, motions for rehearing, and citations to the record. The firm has been successful in preserving our client’s wins, on appeal, as well as overturning erroneous decisions.
For instance, Harry Jones won a reversal in the Waco Court of Appeals for his client, Joelle Ogletree, who was falsely accused of inappropriate sexual relations with her high school students. Now, Ms. Ogletree is free to seek redress against Glen Rose Independent School District for breach of her employment contract and violations of federal law. The victory has attracted national attention, including the Hannity & Colmes show on FOX News and Ernie and Jay Mid-day (KRLD).
Scott Anderson upheld an award of over $100,000 in a lawsuit brought by a commercial tenant against a landlord, based on fraud, misrepresentation, and breach of contract. The Texas Supreme Court denied the Petition for Review.
